Episode 12: JOE McNALLY !!!!
Joe McNally is a legend. His bonafides are myriad; he’s published numerous books and articles, taught workshops around the world, and created some of the most amazing images ever published in magazines including National Geographic and Life. In his 40 years as a photographer of people, he’s captured world leaders, elite athletes and celebrities, but his work with firefighters, coal miners and other “working class” people has established him as one of our finest documentarians.
Enough gushing! In this episode, Jeff and Mason talk with Joe about his amazing life, his work and how he’s not done yet. His new book, (out now from Rocky Nook publishing), is called “The Real Deal: Field Notes from the Life of a Working Photographer”. It took a global pandemic to slow the world down enough for Joe to write this book and it’s a wild ride from his early days as a gopher in the storied newsrooms of New York City to his adventures as a globe-trotting National Geographic photojournalist. Woven into the narrative are bits classic McNally wisdom and colorful glimpses at a life lived atop the world’s highest buildings and deep beneath the ground.
